Traffic Seminar held on 28th April 2014

On the 28th, a seminar was organized in Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, by the Rotary Club of Ranchi Midtown on "Traffic Etiquettes" in order to enlighten the next generation about their responsibilities towards traffic of the city. The seminar was initiated by a speech by the Principal of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, Dr. Manohar Lal , after which the Vice Principal, Mrs.Kulwant Kaur presented a bouquet to the chief guest.

The school auditorium was filled with the students of classes 10th and 12th. The seminar was presided by Traffic Police SP Rajiv Ranjan. He, with the help of multimedia slides, showed the students the outcome of traffic accidents. He discussed the basic problems of the traffic with the students. There were many issue that were discussed like the riders of two wheelers not wearing helmets, overtaking from the wrong side, wrong parking etc. He also showed a few slides explaining various traffic signs and manual signal used by traffic police. In the interactive session that followed, the students asked a number of questions relating to the problems that is faced by the commuters. Questions relating to parking spots in the city, the problem of traffic problem in Upper Bazaar and the situation of Sujata-Chowk at the time of school dispersal were raised by the students, at which the Traffic SP promptly discussed the solutions with the students such as parking outside the enmarked area of the road, lane parking in Upper Bazaar etc. This was an effort by Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School and Rotary Club of Ranchi Midtown to bring awareness in the youth. The program was attended by the President of Rotary Club of Ranchi Midtown Manju Gambhir , members of Club Sharmishtha, Rajesh, Prashant, Bhupinder Jaggi, B.K.Ghosh, Sujata Gupta, Anuradha Jaiswal and Col. Basu.

The President of School Managing Committee, S.Harbinder Singh`Lali’, and Hony.Secretary, S.Inderjeet Singh appreciated the efforts of Rotary Club of Ranchi Midtown and Traffic SP Rajiv Ranjan and hoped that seminars like this should be organized more frequently along with field trips to ensure that the students realize the importance of traffic rules.

World Red Cross Day celebrated on the 7th of May, 2014 at Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School

World Red Cross is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross Movement. World Red Cross Day is celebrated on the 8th of May each year on the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant (born 8 May 1828), the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize. The seminar was organized with the help of Red Cross Society (Ranchi Chapter).

Dr. Manohar Lal, the Principal welcomed the members of Red Cross Society with a speech. The first speaker, Dr. A. K. Agrawal, who is a Prof. of RIMS (Pathology), discussed the importance of Blood Donation. He discussed the benefits of donating blood for the person who requires blood as well as the one donating it.

The second speaker, Mr. K. Sumit, a executive member of Red Cross Society (Ranchi Chapter) , talked about his own personal experiences as a donor. He has given blood approximately 78 times since he started donating blood. He reminded the students that there are no side effects of donating blood, but rather than that it is also a means getting your blood checked every time we donate blood.

The third speaker, Mr. Jay Prakash Gupta, who apart from being the Chairman of Ranchi Chapter of Red Cross Society is also an ex-MLA of Ranchi, on a lighter note, had a talk with the students explaining their value as the upcoming generation, and the responsibility that lies on their shoulders. He after telling them the sacrifices of Henry Dunant, urged them to take part in the efforts. He suggested that the students for a junior wing of Red Cross in the school, so that they can contribute to the society.

In the end Mr.K Sumit made the students take an oath that they will actively take part in the noble work once they attain the age of 18.

The President of School Managing Committee ,S.Harbinder Singh`Lali’, Hony. Secretary, S. Inderjeet Singh and the Vice-President, S.Gurbhej Singh Hora who were also present, gave token of appreciation to the members of Red Cross Society. Mrs Kulwant Kaur, the Vice-Principal, presented the vote of thanks. The program was made possible by the efforts of the teachers Ms. Sonia Kaur and Mrs. Benu Syal.

World Pollution Prevention Day [Junior Section] on 04/12/2013

World Pollution Prevention Day was observed on 4th December in the Junior Section of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School to spread awareness for the colossal problem of pollution. To migrate the burden on our ecosystem and safeguard our precious environment the students took pledge to use eco-friendly products. The school premises reverberated with the slogan ‘Use bicycles instead of cars’ , ‘Say no to plastic bags’, ‘Use CFL bulbs instead of normal bulbs’…………
To show concern about the mounting pollution, a mini rally was organized for the students of Class IV
 

Gurbani Recitation Competition [Jr.Sec] on 11/11/2013

Guru Nanak Devji, an eminent Sikh Guru and the founder of Sikhism is known to enlighten the whole world. To commemorate the Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Devji’s birthday, the Gurbani Recitation Competition was organized in the Junior Wing of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School. Children from Class I to V participated in the competition. The programme embodied the recitals of the Salok, Mool Mantra, Sakhi, Shabad and the autobiography of Guru Nanak Devji. Through these recitations the children not only threw light on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Devji but also inspired the children to follow his path in their daily lives. Prizes were awarded to the winners and all the participants.
 

Field trip to JSCA Stadium [Junior Section] on 23/11/2013

Classes I – V of the Junior Wing of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School visited the Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Complex on the 21st, 22nd, 23rd November’13. The children were allured by the ineffable infrastructure of the Stadium. They were eager to see every corner of the Stadium meticulously. The attendants of the stadium took the children around to see the various lounges, the dressing room, the spectator seats and the news room.
 

Gurbani Gayan Competition held on 07/11/2013

On the onset of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Gurbani Gayan Competition was organised.
This Competition was an interhouse group competition in which one group from each house Ravi, Beas, Chenab and Sutlej participated. In each group there were six participants. The honorable judges present for this event were Sd. Raj Kaur w/o S. Jaswant Singh Hora, Sd Rajvinder kaur w/o S. Atamjeet Singh, Sd. Charanjeet Kaur w/o S. M.S. Hora and Ragi Jatha. The house who bagged the first position in this event was Chenab House, in second position was Ravi House, and in the third position was Sutlej House. S. Harbinder Siingh `Lali’, President, G. B. GNHSS and Hony Secretary S. Inderjeet Singh, G. B. GNHSS congratulated the winners and appreciated their team spirit. Principal, GNHSS, Dr. Manohar Lal and Vice Principal Mrs. Kulwant Kaur also congratulated and praised the winners and the participants.
 

A trip to Guru Nanak Home for the Handicapped (Handwashing Day & Diwali Celebration) on 26/10/2013


The Primary Wing of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School observed the occasion of "Global Handwashing Day" and celebrated "Diwali" on the same platform.The celebration was held on 26th October’13 [Saturday] at Guru Nanak Home for the Handicapped, Bariatu to share the joy of celebrating the festival of lights with the physically challenged children of the organization and to sensitize them about prevention of diseases caused by improper hygiene. The programme started with a sacred chant of a melodious prayer followed by a skit on the occasion of "Global Handwashing Day". Keeping the festive mood in mind, a heart thumping Bhangra performance and a foot tapping dance number was presented by the talented students of Class II. Finally it came to an end with the distribution of candles, diyas, soaps and shampoos among all the special children of Guru Nanak Home by the team of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School.
 

Joy of Giving Week observed on 03/10/2013

Joy of Giving week was observed in Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School which begin on first week of October. The students of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School observed a “Joy Of Giving Week”. During this week the students contributed and collected donations for needy and gifted children. The students along with their teachers visited a Deaf and Dumb school in Niwaranpur. The students distributed sweets, toys, colours, pens, pencils, etc among the students of the Deaf and Dumb of school. Principal, Dr. Manohar Lal and Vice Principal, Mrs. Kulwant Kaur praised the students for their efforts and encouraged them to continue such service to the society in future as well. President, S. Harbinder Singh and Secretary, S. Inderjeet Singh, G. B. GNHSS also praised the students for their effort.
 

Independence Day Programme on 13/08/2013

A short programme was organized in the Junior Section of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School on 13th of August to pay a tribute to the National Heroes and the struggle of freedom which they had gone through. The students and the teachers of Class III performed a short programme on this occasion. The programme was started with a short speech followed by a patriotic poem. A skit presented by the students left the audience spell bound. It gave a good message to the children telling that a Girl Child is equally important in our country. A quiz on India Our Motherland was organized. A short film on Kargil war was shown to the students. At the end there was a colourful dance by the students on “Jai Ho”. It was a programme filled with patriotism and brotherhood.

A tribute to Kargil martyrs on ‘Vijay Diwas’ held on 26/07/2013


The Pre Primary Wing of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School celebrated ‘Vijay Diwas’ with due solemnity and dignity in the School Auditorium. The day marked the 14th anniversary of successful conclusion of operation Vijay during Kargil war in 1999. To commemorate the heroism displayed by the soldiers who sacrificed their lives, the celebration began with an action song ‘Nanha Munna Rahi hoon….’ by the children of Class KG. Then there was a brief documentary on Kargil, which was followed by a skit. Finally a dance number on ‘Yeh desh hai veer jawano ka …..’paying the homage to the martyrs of Operation Vijay.

Van Mahotsav held on 04/07/2013


Van Mahotsav
, an annual tree planting festival was celebrated in Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School in the first week of July. The celebrations started on 1st July with Badge Making followed by an Art Competition in which the children put down the ideas they had in their minds about how a tree plays an important role in their life. On 3rd July Principal Dr. Manohar Lal, Headmistress Mrs. Shalini Vijay, teachers of Nature Club and students planted saplings which left a mark on everyone’s mind that each one should plant one. A gardening activity was also organized for the students of KG. This was followed by a mini rally of the little buds of Class Prep. The students were taken to the SBBJ, Sujata Chowk where they gifted saplings to the staff members. On 4th July a colourful programme was put up by the children of Class I. It included skit, dance, song and fancy dress.

A Tribute to Motherhood held on 26/06/2013


A celebration was organized in the Pre Primary Wing of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School to pay a tribute to Mothers. Students’ mothers were invited on this occasion. The students of Class Prep presented a song dedicated to the mothers. A skit was enacted which conveyed the message that mothers are so very important in the upbringing of a child. The tiny tots presented a ramp walk show which left the audience breathless. The most interesting and eye catching item of the whole programme was Dance India Dance Mother’s Show. The programme ended with a lovely message “I love you Mom”.
A series of fun games like making paper boats, musical chair, lighting candles, collecting stationery items from the mixed bag etc were organized in which mothers participated with great enthusiasm.
School Principal Dr. Manohar Lal, Headmistress Mrs. Shalini Vijay were highly thankful to the mothers for their presence and participation. The programme was well coordinated by the joint effort of all the Pre Primary teachers and was a great success.

Annual Prize Distribution 2012-13 held on 26.04.13

A felicitation ceremony was held in the Junior Section of Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School to appreciate the commendable efforts of the students of class Nursery to V who excelled in academics as well as in other non academic fields for the session 2012 –13. It was a moment of great pride and honour for both the students and the school. The students were given recognition for their extra ordinary academic performances, good behaviour, effort, helpfulness and cent percent attendance. The Cock House trophy was bagged by Chenab House for their overall performance throughout the year.

World Earth Day  22.04.13
The Earth Day is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The theme for Earth Day 2013 is ‘The Face of Climate Change’ where in we have to realize and overcome the massive challenges of the climatic changes that are taking place on our mother earth.

‘Earth Day’ was celebrated in Guru Nanak Hr. Sec. School by the students of Class V with great pomp and fervor. The programme commenced by the speech of our Principal Dr. Manohar Lal. This was followed by a melodious song by the little buds. An activity by the children showing the ways of segregating the bio degradable and non bio degradable waste was also inspiring. In the face painting competition the children gave us ideas to save earth from pollution. The children were glued to the seats all through the programme and also while delivering the speech on the ways of saving the resources available on the earth.

The most prestigious and solemn ceremony in the schedule of school events is the Investiture Ceremony. Orientation Day (Pre Primary Section) held on 05-04-13


Orientation Day
was organized in the Pre Primary Wing on the first day of the session (05-04-13) to welcome the parents of the new students. A slide show ‘Know Your School’ was presented to make parents understand about the rules, procedures, infrastructural amenities, teaching techniques of the school. A quiz show was also held in which parents participated enthusiastically and grabbed prizes.
